Lobby group Girls Uniform Agenda is pushing for schools to revise their uniform policies and abolish gender-specific uniforms. I admit I hadn’t thought about this prior to now but as a mother of a daughter it sparked my interest. If my daughter is more likely to run and jump and hang off monkey bars while wearing shorts, I wouldn’t want her to be forced to wear a skirt purely because it’s a school “tradition”.

The school starting age dilemma continues for parents of children born in the first half of the year – as explained in this article, in NSW many parents are choosing to hold their children back to the following year. “Last year, just 1391 four-year-olds started at NSW primary schools, along with more than 53,000 five-year-olds and 15,816 aged six or over”.
This is a great example of how teenagers can succeed outside of the traditional education model. 15 yr old Josh Brnjac has left traditional schooling to pursue his photography career. While the article doesn’t give many details, it appears he is completing his schooling via distance education – a valid alternative that many may not be aware of.
